New Specs

I am a marketers dream…..I admit it, I fall for the fancy ads and good deals.  As the year is coming to a close, I realized I hadn’t been to the eye doctor in a few years.  Being the penny pincher that I am, I wanted to make sure I was using all my health care benefits.  The eye doctor was one of them.  I did notice a slight change in my vision at the computer, so I thought it wouldn’t hurt to get it checked out.  A couple days after I scheduled my appointment, I saw a program on NBC called 1st Look.  I don’t remember exactly when it was on, but it was sometime on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.  I had the tv on while I was cleaning the house.  One of the “1st Looks” was showcasing an eye wear company called Warby Parker.  It caught my attention, so I sat down to see the rest of the program.  Check out the video here

From the program, what caught my attention was not only did they want to deliver a fashion forward/trendy design, but at price point that wasn’t so outrageous.  If that wasn’t enough, they are philanthropist as well.  For every pair they sell, they give a pair to people in need.  Again, here is the link.  From watching the program, it prompted me to check out their website…..again, marketers dream.  I wanted to check out their styles to see if there were any I liked.  Seeing as the price was right, only $95, I was hoping to find one as my new pair.  My last pair of glasses set me back a pretty penny – Fendi of course.

How does one buy a pair of glasses without trying them on you ask?  Well, they have two pretty neat ways to accomplish this.  One is to take a picture of yourself, uplaod it and they have a “virtual” try on.  Second, they have an “At Home” try on program.  Pick 5 pairs you like and they will ship them to you to try on.  Of couse they take your credit card number incase you keep them, but you get to try on the glasses for 5 days and then ship them back (shipping label included).  All for free.  So that’s what I did.

I had my appointment with my eye doctor and got a copy of my perscription. I can’t wait for my new glasses to come!  I opted for the Langston in black.  Sexy librarian, no? While I was waiting for my appoinment, I did walk around and try on glasses.  Not one pair that I remotely liked cost less then $250.  Some were $450+.  Now, I am a gal that likes nice things, i.e. purses and shoes, but I somehow can’t justify spending that kind of dough on glasses.  $95 is perfect.  See how I am a markers dream?
