I have organized a Supper Club with a small group of friends. With all of our busy lives these days with work, play, babies, dating, etc., we were not getting together as often as we used to. I decided to institute a Supper Club. It would accomplish two of my favorite things – fabulous food and good company. It’s important to not only nourish your body with food, but to nurture your relationships (sounds cheesy, but you know it’s true).
Here is how it works – each couple lists out local restaurants that they want to try and we alternate between the couples choices and meet up for dinner once a month (I was in charge of picking the order randomly by drawings numbers out of a hat). This is actually the 2nd installment of the Wednesday Night Supper Club. We were missing one couple this evening from our group. Our friends had welcomed a beautiful baby boy the night before. We dedicated this dinner to Baby Kien.
Tonights dinner was at the Farm House Café. This was actually my pick. They are on my list for many reasons. One is that they use local, organic, seasonal ingredients. Another benefit that I found was that they do half priced wine night on Tuesdays and Wednesday – an added perk!
The restaurant is located on Adams Ave. in University Heights. A cute little neighborhood located north of North Park. The décor is decorated simply with a French country chic theme and little ducks placed around – very cute. (the bathroom is also very nice….I look at bathrooms at restaurants – if they don’t have a nice, clean restroom, they get points deducted in my book). I also really enjoyed the background music that they had playing. It was not overpowering and it added to the ambiance. The wait staff was so nice and attentive. I wish I remembered our severs name, he was great! We all had different dishes, so I could try a bite of everything! That’s another great aspect about eating out with a group of friends, more items to try. I had the special for the evening, Hanger Steak with a Bordelaise Sauce with olive oil poached potatoes. We also had the Scallops with risotto, The Burger, The Seabass and the Burratta Salad. For dessert we shared the Butterscotch Pot de Crème and the Guinness Cake. All were amazing.
My Hanger Steak was perfectly cooked. The sweet and salty combo of the Guinness cake, honey ice cream that was topped with the salted carmel candied bacon was a great flavor combination.
Final Verdict:
Would I eat here again: Definitely Yes
Would I recommend it to others: Yes
