Simplify Your MakeUp Bag

I don’t know about you, but as I have gotten older and now have a young child, I don’t spend as much time on my makeup as I used to.  I have “naturally” developed my standard, go-to, day to day makeup over time to just a couple simple steps. When I went traveling recently, I “downsized” my makeup bag to just what I was using day to day and never went back!  It felt great. I am no makeup artist and I don’t need a lot, but for some reason I had a whole makeup brush holder and two other makeup bags with “just in case I might need that color” makeup or I might wear fake eyelashes and need 3 sets and 2 tubes of glue (I have only worn fake eyelashes twice in my life and one was on my wedding day and put on by a professional).  I was also spending extra time in the morning just digging through my makeup bag to get to the things I actually needed. Don’t get me wrong, I like makeup, but I really have no idea what I am doing, so I don’t need a lot. This whole routine takes me about 7 mins. in the morning. Less if I am in a hurry and rush, longer if I really want to make it look extra special :).

Here is what I use daily in order that I apply it:

Eyeshadow Primer

Foundation

Concealer

Setting Powder

EyeBrow Powder

2 Eyeshadows – base and crease

Brown Eyeliner

Mascara

Blush

That’s it!

Simplifying my make-up bag, although a small thing, actually made me feel better.  A little lighter. It’s it strange how physical things that we have and hang onto can weigh us down?

I plan on doing more simplification and cleaning out of things.  Yes, you can call it spring cleaning, but the thought of spring cleaning actually sounds daunting.  I’m going to try and break it up into smaller chunks – like the saying goes – “Do you know how to eat an elephant? – One bite at a time”.  I am going to be taking a lot of bites to eat the elephant that is spring cleaning.

What is one small area you can simplify to make your life easier?

P.S. – found this great, small makeup bag on Amazon that also has a flap for brushes as well.  It has worked out perfectly!

Xoxo,
